Material, structure system, and facade

This chapter covers the history of the facade. But Facade's history has an inseparable relationship with the history of the building system. So to understand the history of the facade, firstly, I'm going to talk about the history of the building system, specifically the history of the building methods in a shallow manner.

As technology developed, building methods continued to develop also. However, two architectural techniques are the most basic until to this day, which forms the basis of architectural structure system from a long time ago, both in the East and the West. In this chapter, I'm going to introduce the two systems and deal with the features.

The first one is the Masonry system, and the second one is the Column – Beam system. Architectural materials had a great influence branching of these two systems. This is because architecture is closely related to the properties of materials. Depending on the region, available building materials which are nearby were different, and this material played a role in determining the architectural system of the area. 

 

In summary, the discovery of building materials has influenced architecture, and again, the architectural system has made a big role in the establishment and transformation of facades.

 

First pig's straw house

The first pig's house of the fairy tale <Three Little Pig Brothers>. He used straws as building materials, and they were woven together to make a house.

Second pig's log house

Third pig's brick house

The first pig's house of the fairy tale <Three Little Pig Brothers>. He used bricks as building materials, and they were stacked together to make a house.

As you all know the ending of this well-known fairy tale <Three little Pig Brothers>, only the youngest is safe from wind attacks by wolves. But are the first and second homes sloppy and incomplete?
